4 things you should DEFINITELY be thinking about when choosing your wedding photographer

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

It's a minefield out there, I know. So many photographers, so little time.

So I've come up with a way to help you guide your way through when filtering out wedding photographers to shoot your special day. After all, it is just one day and you want to get it right!

1. Images They speak for themselves and should be your number one consideration. Can you see yourself in them? Are you moved by them? When all said and done, you want your pictures to be your lasting memory so when you are looking through the portfolios, go with your heart. Make sure they are consistently good and most importantly, up to date. You want to be sure that they have shot a wedding recently that you are impressed with. 2. Personality Most other wedding suppliers are there for short periods of time over the day. Your photographer however is with you from morning until night. A really good way to get to know if the photographer is a good fit for you is to give them a call or have a zoom meeting. Even a whatsapp chat is good! Soon, we might even be able to meet up in real life! (Go away covid!) An engagement shoot is another great way of getting to know them and makes the day far less stressful.

3. Professionalism It's the boring stuff but it really matters. Are they insured? What if they don't turn up, is there a plan? Are they prepared and planned? Have they scouted the venue? It's a one shot event so ensuring that your photographer has every angle covered is a huge peace of mind for couples. Don't be afraid to ask those questions and a good photographer will not be afraid to answer them!

4. Price Price is obviously hugely important to most couples and rightfully so. If your budget is a certain amount, that's what you are aiming for! I would say have a look at the comparisons to your other wedding suppliers when making your choices. For example, a photographer is there for the whole day and then a good one puts almost double that time in AFTER the event to edit your images. Not forgetting a free engagement shoot if offered. By comparison, some suppliers may only be at the venue for a few hours. So when deciding value for money, try and think in terms of hours and time spent on your special day. It's an amazing day and it should be one of your most special memories. Trust your heart and enjoy every moment whilst your photographer captures the memories!
